PLDT and Smart network expansion boosts speeds
PLDT and Smart is working hard to accelerate the rollout of their fixed and wireless networks. This resulted in boosted data speeds in the first half of 2018.

As of the end of June, Smart has already installed more than 3,900 LTE base stations. This increased their LTE base station numbers to 12,600 which is a 45 percent increase. This developments improves Smart's LTE coverage and also activated the faster and higher capacity LTE-A.
Smart's effort is not confined in Metro Manila only. They also improved LTE and LTE-A coverage in Batanes, Sagada, Cagayan, Palawan, Sorsogon, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Davao and Sarangani. This puts Smart on track to meet its commitment to the National Telecommunications Commission to provide high speed wireless data services to over 90% of the countries cities by the end of 2018.
PLDT also rolled out their expansion of their own fiber optic transmission and distribution network. In the first half of 2018, PLDT increased its fiber coverage to 204,000 kilometers with over 29,000 kilometers of fiber cable rolled out. This improved PLDT's fiber network's capacity, reach and stability.
Some major cities has already been turned into "Smart Cities" by PLDT including Toledo City in Cebu, General Santos City, Naga City, Southern Metro Manila, Eastern Metro Manila and business districts such as Rockwell Makati and Bonifacio Global City. Cavite and El Nido are some of the provinces that was also benefited by the fiber roll out.
