Last week, Xiaomi shocked the world when they introduced POCOPHONE. It's the company's sub-brand with a different product philosophy.

The result? POCOPHONE F1, the first smartphone of the company.
As of writing, it is the most affordable in the world with the flagship-grade Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor with heavy-gaming ready Adreno 630 GPU from Qualcomm.
Moreover, it highlights several cool features like the Liquid Cool tech, massive 4,000mAh battery with fast charging via USB Type-C, dual 4G LTE connectivity, IR face unlock, dual stereo speaker setup, and more.
The best part? It has a starting price of just PHP 17,990. In comparison, the cheapest Snapdragon 845 device before the POCO F1 is the Xiaomi Mi 8 with a PHP 25,990 starting price.

According to our group interview with Alvin Tse, the boss of POCOPHONE Global, their company listened to what the market needs. They only picked the "relevant" technologies that matters for the POCO F1.
Why? To keep the cost down.
The focus of POCOPHONE is on the display, performance, camera, and battery. Other features like the metal and glass display, super high resolution screen, pop-up cameras, and more are nice to have, but they are not that "necessary" for a smartphone user.
The market wants something very affordable, but with flagship features.
However, some are still skeptical. The price to specs ratio of the POCO F1 is too good to be true. Others even hinted that they have cut corners somewhere.
Partially, it is true since the material of used on the body of the handset is plastic. But, it is a durable type of plastic.
Alvin Tse even emphasized that they will never cut corners or compromise the quality of their product. He claimed that they picked the best suppliers and top-tier brand new components for the F1.
Since POCOPHONE is a sub-brand of Xiaomi, they have access to all the quality tests and standards of their mother company.
They also used the same supply chain and after sales support of Xiaomi. They don't have commercial baggage and profitability targets as well.
The profit margin of POCOPHONE is also very small. But according to Tse, as long as they are not losing money, they are fine.
Most likely, it is the risk they are willing to take in order to provide flagship-grade features at the most affordable price possible for their consumers.
If true, this strategy could make them and Xiaomi be more successful in the long run.
Why? They will enjoy more word-of-mouth marketing and people will love their products.
