OpenSignal: Smart beats Globe at OpenSignal Awards
OpenSignal released their semi-annual update of their State of Mobile Networks: Philippines report. Both Smart and Globe shows improvement as of August 2018.
The improvements come after the rumors that the Philippine government is looking to attract a third major telco player. OpenSignal went ahead and compared the 3G and 4G results of both Globe and Smart.
Globe and Smart split the results in terms of 4G availability and 4G download speeds which is the case six months ago.
Smart still holds a pretty comfortable lead in LTE download speeds.
Globe is still leading in terms of 4G availability but Smart showed a significant improvement, closing the gap to less than 4 points.

Download speeds for both telco companies has seen a considerable improvement in the last 6 months as well. Globe's average download speed has grown 14 percent to 5Mbps in their tests while Smart's average has grown 29 percent to 7.5Mbps. Smart's increased speeds is directly related to the rapid rise of their 4G availability.
In terms of 4G latency, the results are more varied. Latency is the network's response time or most popularly known as ping.
The lower the number is the more stable the network is. Smart's 4G latency numbers suffered the last 6 months with an increase of more than 5ms. Globe, on the other hand, showed an improvement of around 5ms as well. This category is basically a tie.
